Keep up-to-date with whats happening within the property market on Costa del Sol.Go
The Costa del Sol is in the enviable position of having glorious weather and beaches which can be enjoyed all year round and the extra bonus for the winter visitor of being able to ski just 2 hours away in the Sierra Nevada. Starting the day on the beach and hitting the slopes in the afternoon is a surreal experience, but a wonderful one and something we’d definitely recommend. It’s an easy day trip, or you can stay overnight if you want a more leisurely time in the snow. The ski season runs from 1st December to 1st May so there’s plenty of time to come and try it for yourself.
It was a tough start to the season for all ski resorts in Europe and Sierra Nevada suffers more than most due to its southern location. However, as temperatures dropped towards Christmas they were able to get the snow cannons out and open more runs on the lower slopes and they received a brilliant gift for the special day of the Three Kings with heavy snows falling, low temperatures and more snow forecast this weekend. January tends to be a month with more rain on the coast which means snow up in the mountains, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for much more snow to come. The best time for skiing in the Sierra Nevada tends to be February and March when the January snows form a good base for skiing and winds tend to be lower. Plus as it’s the low season for the Costa del Sol, the flights and holiday rentals are much cheaper than in the summer, so it can be a really affordable way to get your snow fix this year.
This is a compact resort, but it has a good mix of runs and enough to keep intermediate skiers very happy for several days. In total there are 124 pistes, and 21 lifts connecting up the runs, plus a pretty village with lots of fun options for après-ski. If you visit during the week you will have many runs to yourself and lift queues are a minimum, which is bliss. Try and avoid weekends and holidays if you can though, as these can be packed. If you’re looking to do a day trip to the mountains, and want to keep your journey to a minimum, as well as being close to the culture, nightlife and shopping of Malaga, we’d recommend choosing Benalmadena, just 15 minutes’ drive from Malaga airport, on the train line to Malaga city and only two hours from the slopes.
We have a very affordable option perfect for a couple on a winter break, which is a spacious studio apartment in Benalmadena close to all the amenities, a short walk to the stunning Paloma Park and just 700 meters from the beach. It includes a kitchen, bathroom, large lounge with sofa bed and a terrace with glass curtains. During the ski season you can rent this studio flat for just 357€ per week, a real bargain.
If you check the snow report and see a really good weather and excellent conditions, give us a call and check our last minute availability, during low season there are normally lots of holiday rental options even at the last minute, so don’t miss out!
