Golfers are catered for by 3 courses in easy reach La Duquesa is behind the marina of Duquesa the world renowned Finca Cortesin is a 10 minute drive, and Valderama plus several others are a further drive away.
Situated on the western side of the Costa del Sol, this is a great area to enjoy sight-seeing trips to Gibraltar and Sotogrande. There is the lovely Port of Duquesa and further along past Algeciras you can watch or take part in kite surfing and water sports at the beautiful beaches of Tarifa.
Heading east, youre just 20 minutes from Estepona with the world famous resort of Puerto Banus just a few minutes further on. If you want the feel of a big city, then Marbella is around a 30 minute drive with the shopping ranging from the El Corte Ingles to the sprawling La Canada centre to the infinite variety of small shops and boutiques lining the cobbled streets of old Marbella.
Go inland a short distance and you find the traditional Spanish white hill village of Casares perched on the side of the hills under the Sierra Crestellina. With any luck youll see the massive griffon vultures or other raptors soaring over the village. Further north and about an hours drive away you can get to the natural area around Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja the 1500 m high mountain you can see from the balcony of the apartment.
Sabinillas, located between Casares Costa and Puerto de la Duquesa, has grown from a fishing village into a bustling town, yet has managed to maintain its village atmosphere making it a popular place for holidays and draws many holiday goers year round. It also enjoys a welcoming, international expat community. The town benefits from an underpass for traffic travelling along the coast and also has a lovely 2 km seafront promenade to enjoy a walk in the sunshine and stop and enjoy a fantastic fish and seafood meal. The town offers many plazas or squares and municipal gardens offering a real taste of Spain, and is host to many pavement cafes, bars, restaurants, supermarkets and every day amenities along the Avenida Manilva. Sabinillas hosts a weekly market on Fridays right in front of the apartment, and theres a huge Sunday market held a kilometre or so from the main entrance plus chiringuitos to visit and enjoy the whole Spanish experience.
The expansive stretches of beach along this western part of the Costa del Sol include some coveted Blue Flag beaches and offer a more rural and tranquil beach experience. The local fishermen still use the beach to launch and land their boats and bring in their haul of the day.
