September is a great time to visit the Costa del Sol, the weather is still warm and sunny, there’s still lots to do but the hordes of tourists have dissipated.

Under 30 minutes drive from Marbella’s bustling centre is the pretty white village of Guaro, normally a quiet small village which is focussed on olive and almond production but which for two weekends in September attracts over 50,000 visitors for their festival of Andalusian music and culture.

Luna Mora means Moorish Moon and features a traditional Moorish market, workshops, live music, including excellent flamenco shows and street performers. This would be enough to make it worth a visit, but what makes this really special is it is lit by 25,000 candles as night falls. The festival is taking place this year on 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th September from 17.00.

It is on the edge of the Sierra de las Nieves natural park and an easy day trip from the Costa del Sol, so head up and enjoy some nature in the day time, followed by an evening of traditional festivities.

A visitor’s tip is to drive to Monda and park and then take a coach running to the festival as parking in Guaro can be a problem.

If this sounds like fun, it’s not too late to book your Costa del Sol holiday rental. Contact us today for late availability.
