Last chance to experience a Spanish feria in 2018

Last chance to experience a Spanish feria in 2018

San Pedro Feria holds the last Feria of the year and it’s a great excuse for a short break to the Costa del Sol. Taking place between the 16th and the 21st of October in the town’s feria ground, this is always an excellent party. There will be a week of flamenco, music and delicious Spanish food during the day feria and then great fairground rides, music and dancing until dawn for the young (and young at heart) as part of the night feria.

The festivities begin on Tuesday 16th of October with a parade of “Gigantes y Cabezudos” through the streets. From 7pm, huge figures and people in large masks will be parading from Plaza Pueblo de Istan and doing a circuit of San Pedro. Stick around for the fireworks at 9.30, which announce the official start of the feria and are always great to watch.

There is a kids’ “caseta” or little house, which is open every day of the feria, with activities for the smallest members of the family. The big day for the kids is Wednesday 17th of October, with a kids’ party in the Municipal Tent from 5pm, a show for them to watch and then special prices for children on the rides from 6pm.

Thursday is when the day feria begins at 1pm and there is a parade through the streets at 5pm. Friday, Saturday and Sunday is much the same, with the day feria from 1pm, masses and religious parades to honour the Patron Saint and rides and music in the evening.

There is also a great programme of concerts during the feria. On the 18th of October the group Efecto Pasillo will be playing, David DeMaría takes to the stage on the 19th and Niña Pastori on Saturday. Sunday is the big day and there will be three great concerts from Furia Falconeti, Rockinger z and Devils in the Sky.

We would recommend San Pedro de Alcantara as an ideal winter destination and the feria is a great way to discover it. It is an interesting place to explore, as there are three zones, with very different identities.

You have the traditional Old Town area, which is very Spanish in character, with its small streets, church squares and plenty of charm. This is perfect for shopping and people watching sitting outside one of the great cafes. Then you have the Boulevard, a stretch of playgrounds, cafes and parks, which was completed a few years ago and is very modern, appealing particularly to families with young children. Finally, you have the beachfront area, with its very long promenade, great beaches, cafes and restaurants. This gives you a lot of variety within a small area, without needing to drive. You can even walk to Puerto Banus in under an hour, to see a very different side of the Costa del Sol, and Marbella is just a short taxi ride away.

If San Pedro sounds like somewhere you’d like to visit, we’d recommend this fantastic three bedroom beachfront apartment. It’s in a wonderful complex with manicured gardens and a communal pool, which is just 50 meters from the beach. It is a spacious apartment with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and its wraparound terrace has amazing sea views.

If you want to come and watch the golf, we have a great apartment for you in the heart of the stunning Sotogrande Marina, just 15 minutes’ drive from Valderrama. The marina is a stunning setting full of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops and right by some excellent beaches. This two bedroom apartment in Sotogrande Port has two bathrooms and is bright and airy, with a modern lounge diner, leading out to a great little terrace with marina views. Pets are welcome and there is a shared garden to enjoy.

Valderrama is often said to be the Costa del Sol’s best golf course. Golfer Sergio Garcia who is hosting the event and supporting it with his foundation is a big fan of the course and commented, “Valderrama is a very special place for me, full of good memories – obviously the best when I finally managed to win in 2011. It is one of my favourite courses, one of the best in the world, and I always enjoy playing there.”

Valderrama describes itself as a private member’s club that welcomes visitors, so you too could play this iconic course on your next visit to the Costa del Sol. Green fees are 350€ for 18 holes Monday to Thursday and 370€ Friday to Sunday and reservations need to be made in advance as demand is high.

However, if this is a little expensive for you, there are many other more budget friendly options. We have listed some of our favourite golf courses on the Costa del Sol and perfect rental properties to use as a base on our blog, which we hope will help you to find the right course and holiday rental property for you. We also have a collection of golf holiday rentals which are right on the golf course, or conveniently located near them, so it’s easy for you to find the right place to try out the Costa del Golf and all it has to offer.

Halloween on the Costa del Sol

If you’re on holiday on the Costa del Sol with the family during Halloween its a great time to be here. The weather is cooler but still pleasant, things are generally cheaper and there are loads of fun things to do with the kids.

As Halloween isn’t traditionally celebrated in Spain, you can’t expect to go door knocking in scary outfits in any neighbourhood, however you will find some communities where you can take the kids trick or treating.

Same as the UK, you can find pumpkins in the supermarket so you can have fun with the kids making them into scary lanterns to decorate your holiday home and the Chinese bizarre shops sell all kinds of Halloween costumes, masks, bags, accessories and decorations at low prices.

There are plenty of fun Halloween events on the Costa del Sol suitable for the whole family and children of all ages, even babies are catered for! Many bars and restaurants will also get into the spirit by holding themed nights and staff will get dressed up for the occasion. Here are some of our favourite events happening here for Halloween;

De Medici and Marbella Rocks Halloween Party  –  For the adults… De Medici and Marbella Rocks invite you to a night of great food and live music! Enjoy a 3-course set menu including wine for only €40! There will be a prize for the best fancy dress costume!

Tivoli World – This amusement park in Benalmadena gets all decked out for Halloween and is open every Sunday in October from 11:00am to 7:00pm. Come dressed up and entrance is free (rides at an additional cost)

Galaxia Playcenter Halloween Party – This indoor playground is hosting a Halloween party for kids with lots of prizes, games and competitions for all ages. Galaxia is located at Centro Comercial Guadalmina in San Pedro.

Halloween Party at Coleta Nursery, Marbella – Coleta is a nursery in Marbella for children under 4 years of age. Join in the fun with a special guest appearance from the fabulous magician, Luigi Ludus.

If you are looking for your own private holiday rental home amongst all the action or even somewhere to get away from it all, HolidayRentalontheWeb offers a home for every holiday.
