Located in the centre of Italy, Tuscany is renowned for its beautiful scenery and for the largest collection of art in the world, from paintings and sculpture, to frescoes and architecture. The region is widely regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and was home historically to the likes of Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci. Visitors come to Tuscany to see the fine art, explore the beautiful countryside, or enjoy the simple gourmet cuisine and famous local wines such as Chianti. With its 120 plus protected nature reserves, outdoors life has something for everyone here, whether walking or cycling in the mountains, or exploring and sightseeing in the towns and cities. Tuscany seems to have as many ‘cities of art’ as there are cities! Favourite destinations to visit include Florence (the region’s capital), which is designated one of the most visited places in the world, and Pisa, with its famous leaning tower, as well as the historical centres of Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo, and Lucca, many of which are designated World Heritage sites.
